Rishabh Pant Joins Elite Club With 100 Sixes in Test Cricket

The wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has joined the elite list of players to have the rare milestone of 100 sixes in Test Cricket.

He achieved the feat during the fourth day of the first Test in the India tour of Sri Lanka 2026.

Rishabh Pant also became the fastest to 100 maximums in his 51st game, while former England skipper Ben Stokes had reached the mark in his 82nd Test.

Ahead of Pant, England’s Ben Stokes, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum and Australia’s Adam Gilchrist have achieved the feat.

Before the start of the game, Rishabh Pant had 97 sixes, and in the first game he equalled Chris Gayle’s record of 98 sixes.

Among Indians, both Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, with 91 sixes each, are joint second in the list.

Rishabh Pant’s batting approach has been concerning as he his heading into the match, as his aggressive had divided opinion. During the first innings, Pant scored 39 runs off 62 deliveries before being dismissed on attempting a big shot.

Meanwhile, he played a cautious game in the second innings; Rishabh Pant smashed 66 runs off 69 deliveries. He came to bat after India lost three wickets for 81 runs, including Shubman Gill.

Pant started tentatively and got his first boundary off the 13th ball he faced. In the very next over, he welcomed back Lahiru Kumara with a six that sent the ball out of the park, and the umpires had to call in two to get a new one.

India lost the wickets of Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel before and after the lunch break. Rishabh Pant shifted to an aggressive approach and attacked the hosts. He smashed boundaries in Keshara Nuwantha’s over in the 36th over.

In the next over, he hit Kumara once again for a six to break the record. After that, Pant went into overdrive and got a couple more boundaries with some unconventional shots before being dismissed for 66 runs.
