Rishabh Pant returns to Delhi Capitals with a loss of Rs 12 crore, Kuldeep Yadav will join LSG.

New Delhi: One of the biggest trade deals of IPL has been finalized. After two seasons with Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant is now returning to his old team Delhi Capitals. Instead, Kuldeep Yadav will be a part of LSG.

Pant returned after cutting his salary by 44 percent

Rishabh Pant, who was the most expensive player in IPL history, has made a big cut in his fees. He was getting Rs 27 crore in LSG, now he will play in Delhi for Rs 15 crore. That means a shortfall of about Rs 12 crore.

LSG had bought Pant by beating Delhi in the 2024 auction. Then owner Sanjeev Goenka had said that Pant can stay with the team for 15 years and can win them 4-5 titles. But the reality was different.

Two seasons were a flop in LSG.

Pant’s journey with Lucknow was not as expected. In the first season, he scored only 269 runs, whereas in the last season in Delhi, he scored 446 runs. In the second season, he scored 312 runs at a strike rate of 138, but could not maintain his rhythm due to frequent ups and downs in the batting order.

He did not appear comfortable even while talking to broadcasters and could not cement his place in the team. Now he is making a comeback in Delhi Capitals, where he played 111 matches between 2016 and 2024. This is the most matches for DC by any player. He has also captained the team in 43 matches from 2021 to 2024.

Now Kuldeep Yadav will be with LSG

The last season of Kuldeep Yadav, who left Delhi, was nothing special. Could take only 10 wickets in 12 matches. But his five-year journey with Delhi was good. After joining the team in 2022, he took 72 wickets in 65 matches and was counted among the most effective spinners.

After being out of Kolkata Knight Riders, Kuldeep gave a new direction to his career in Delhi itself. Now he will join Lucknow Supergiants for a fee of Rs 13.50 crore.

Will Pant be able to regain his rhythm?

Pant’s return can prove to be a profitable deal for Delhi. Last season the team did not get a confirmed opening partner with KL Rahul. Pant can also play in the middle order, which can strengthen the finishing by sending Tristan Stubbs down. Interestingly, in October 2024, Pant himself had tweeted asking whether he would be sold if he came to the auction or not.

Then DC co-owner Parth Jindal had said that Pant would be retained. But the opposite happened, Pant went to the auction and LSG bought it for Rs 21 crore. Now it remains to be seen whether Pant is able to get his IPL career back on track after returning home.
