Kolkata. Ritabrata Banerjee, leader of the rebel faction of Trinamool Congress and leader of opposition in the assembly, has made a big announcement on Saturday. He said that if Mamata Banerjee decides to contest the by-election, he will withdraw his candidature as he wants the former chief minister to return to the assembly.

What did Ritabrata Banerjee say?
Leader of the opposition in West Bengal Ritabrata Banerjee said that the faction has almost finalized its candidate for the by-election, but if Mamata Banerjee decides to contest the elections as an independent candidate too, they will withdraw their candidate. He said that we want Dr. Mamata Banerjee to come to the Assembly. It would be better if he comes from Nandigram. she said, referring to the constituency from where she lost the 2021 assembly elections. These comments come amid the ongoing dispute between the Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress and the Ritabrata faction over the party's name and election symbol.
Election Commission is hearing both sides
Two assembly by-elections are going to be held in the state, in view of which the Election Commission is hearing the claims of both the parties. Ritabrata Banerjee claimed that Mamata Banerjee had not won the direct assembly elections and had first entered the assembly through by-elections. He also said that his faction is confident of victory in the upcoming by-elections. The last date for filing nominations for the by-election is September 16.
