Robbers snatched phone from MLA who was out for a walk and escaped, police engaged in search
The opposition taunted and said – Chhattisgarh people should protect themselves
Raipur. Some unidentified motorcyclists snatched the mobile phone of senior BJP MLA and former Assembly Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik during his morning walk in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur on Monday, creating a political controversy over law and order.
Opposition party Congress targeted the BJP government over this incident, saying that this incident happened during the three-day visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the state. He termed it as “a slap on the so-called good governance of the state”.
According to the police, thieves riding a motorcycle snatched Kaushik’s mobile phone when he was walking alone on a PWD flyover under Civil Lines police station area.
An official said that as soon as the information was received, the police immediately reached the spot and started scanning the CCTV footage of the surrounding areas to identify and trace the accused. Former Assembly Speaker Kaushik confirmed the incident and said that he has informed the police about it, and the police are investigating the matter.
Attacking the state government, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said in a post on social media platform ‘X’, “Chhattisgarh people should protect themselves. Now information has been received that senior leader of Chhattisgarh BJP and Bilha MLA, former leader of opposition Shri Dharam Lal Kaushik ji was robbed in Civil Lines during his morning walk today, the thieves snatched his mobile and ran away. Just think! Such an incident during the “morning walk” when the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah ji is in Chhattisgarh is a slap on the so-called “good governance”.
