AI Satellite Data Center: Elon Musk, one of the world’s most celebrated industrialists, is once again in the headlines for his ambitious plan. After sharing plans to build an AI data center in space a few days ago, Musk has now unveiled his vision of building a factory on the moon. During SpaceX’s earnings call, he stated that the company intends to build factories and industrial infrastructure on the moon in the future with the help of robots.
Musk claims this move could help SpaceX grow its economy to 1,000 times larger than Earth’s current economy. He acknowledged that while the idea may seem like science fiction at the moment, it could become a reality in the future.
Robots will build factories, will cargo be launched without rockets?
Elon Musk stated that SpaceX’s autonomous satellites could be used as robots. In the future, these robots deployed on the Moon will help build factories and mass accelerators that will enable cargo to be launched from the Moon without rockets. These factories are planned to be powered by solar and radiation-based energy. However, SpaceX has not yet disclosed an official timeline or investment for this project. It is also unclear whether the Tesla Optimus robot will be used in this mission or whether the company will develop a separate robot for this purpose.
Can a factory really be built on the moon?
While this idea may sound extraordinary, experts don’t completely dismiss it. Patrick Suermann, a professor of construction science at Texas A&M University, says building a satellite factory on the moon could be economically viable. He believes that due to the moon’s lower gravity, launching satellites from there could be much cheaper than from Earth, resulting in significant savings in fuel costs. However, transporting the initial resources and equipment to the moon would still be a very expensive and challenging task.
Work is also progressing rapidly on AI data centers in space.

The aim of this project is to create an AI-based satellite data center in space. Reports suggest that these satellites could begin launching next year. If this plan is successful, it could usher in a new era of computing and satellite technology in space.
