The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put an end to the news of Rohit Sharma’s retirement. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, while talking to news agency PTI, dismissed speculations about Rohit’s future and said that the third ODI against England at Lord’s on Sunday is not his last match. It was being claimed in the media reports that the selectors have told 39 year old Rohit that they are thinking ahead of him and want to give a chance to Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Saikia rejected these reports outright. He said that fans’ favorite ‘Hitman’ is not going anywhere. Saikia said, ‘There is a lot of speculation in the media regarding the future of Rohit Sharma. I want to say with full confidence that there is no such discussion that Rohit will play his last match at Lord’s on Sunday.

‘Rohit will continue playing for the country’
Saikia said, ‘Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and will continue to play for the country as long as he is part of the team’s plans. In other words, Lord’s ODI is not his last match.
It is believed that top BCCI officials are not happy with the stand of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir on this issue. BCCI Secretary issued an official statement after day-long talks with all the parties. A former BCCI official also played a role in resolving this issue with Saikia.

Rohit was very unhappy that he was informed about this decision before an important match and he had expressed his displeasure at how a senior cricketer was being treated. Rohit is 13 matches away from joining the 300 ODI club. He has already retired from Test and T20I.
