Rohit Sharma’s injury spoiled Mumbai’s game? Bhajji’s statement on MI’s playoff chances goes viral
Harbhajan Singh on Rohit Sharma: Rohit Sharma’s return has breathed new life into the Mumbai Indians camp, but is it too late? Everyone is surprised to see his stormy innings against Lucknow, but former Team India legend Harbhajan Singh has a deep regret in his mind. Bhajji believes that Mumbai’s fate would have been different if Rohit was with him at a particular ‘turn’. After all, what is the big reason which spoiled Mumbai’s game?
Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said that if former captain Rohit Sharma had recovered quickly from his hamstring injury, the Mumbai Indians team would have been in a better position to reach the Indian Premier League playoffs. Rohit returned to the field on Monday after recovering from injury and played a stormy inning of 84 runs. Thanks to this performance, his team managed to successfully chase the target of 229 runs against Lucknow Super Giants and won by six wickets.
It is very important for Rohit to be present on the field
Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit was out of the team due to a hamstring strain while batting against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 12, and after that he could not play five matches. Speaking to JioCinema, Harbhajan said, ‘It is very important to be present on the field. You can’t do much sitting in the dugout. But, by being on the field, you can really make a difference and that is exactly what Rohit Sharma did.
He further said, ‘Chasing such a big goal requires a strong foundation. He not only laid a solid foundation but also took it forward effectively. It would have been even better if he had scored a century, but as long as he remained at the crease, he performed brilliantly. Harbhajan further said, ‘I wish his injury had healed a little sooner. Who knows, when his team was facing continuous defeats, perhaps he would have been able to help them win one or two matches, which would have strengthened their claim in the tournament.
Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that Lucknow had to pay the price for not performing consistently. Shastri said, ‘The problem with Lucknow is that whenever their bowling unit performs well, the batsmen are not able to provide them enough support and on the contrary, when the batsmen score a lot of runs, the bowlers give away a lot of runs. There is a lack of consistency in his performance.
