New Delhi .Indian cricket's star batsman Rohit Sharma is now going to start his new innings on the cricket field as well as on the television screen. He will be seen as a host in the entertainment program named Family Full House With Rohit Sharma. The show is scheduled to premiere on 19 September 2026. After the news of Rohit's TV debut, discussions have intensified regarding his cricket future and the biggest question is whether he can do television shows while being an active cricketer or will he have to leave cricket for this.
Rohit Sharma has already retired from Test and T20 international cricket, while his availability remains in ODI cricket. In such a situation, it would not be right to directly link hosting a TV program with retirement from ODI cricket. Rohit's cricket career will currently be decided by his performance, selection and the needs of the team, and not just by his appearances in entertainment programmes.
There does not appear to be any general provision in the available rules of the Board of Control for Cricket in India under which an active international cricketer has to compulsorily retire to host a TV show. However, rules regarding contracts, sponsorship rights and potential conflicts of interest are important in the professional activities of athletes. Therefore, any individual business activity may be required to conform to the terms of the relevant contract and permission.
Rohit's new program is based on family entertainment. Popular images related to his cricket career have also been included in the promotion of the program. His garden statement which came into discussion during his captaincy has also appeared in the publicity material. It is clear that along with Rohit's cricket experience, his easygoing and fun personality will also be presented to the audience in the programme.
ODI cricket still holds special importance for Rohit Sharma. While captaining the Indian team, he took the team to the final in the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, India had to face defeat in the title match. Earlier in 2011, India had won the World Cup under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but Rohit was not a part of that winning team. This is the reason why winning the ODI World Cup is considered one of the biggest unfulfilled desires of his career.
Rohit's possible role in the 2027 ODI World Cup is also under discussion. In the ODI match played against England at Lord's, he demonstrated his batting ability by playing a brilliant inning of 138 runs.
