The Giallorossi had hoped that their most recent proposal at €28m plus a 10 per cent cut of the future sale fee would suffice.
Read will cost €30m this summer
The asking price remains €30m, and with interest also from Nottingham Forest, they believe that this fee can be achieved.
Roma are not giving up, and negotiations are set to continue, including over commission and various bonuses to bump up the figure.
Read has already agreed personal terms with the Serie A side, and is eager to join Gian Piero Gasperini’s team in the Champions League.
The right-back turned 20 in June and can also play on the left when required.

He scored two goals and provided three assists in 20 competitive games for Feyenoord last season.
The opening bid had been €25m, so this was an improvement, but not enough to satisfy the Dutch team.
