NATO’s befitting reply to Russia! Romania shoots down Russian drone with F-16, third intrusion in 3 days
Romania F16 Shot Down Russian Drone: The heat of the ongoing fierce war between Russia and Ukraine has now started reaching neighboring NATO countries. NATO member country Romania on Sunday shot down a suspected Russian drone that had intruded into its airspace. The Romanian Air Force used its modern F-16 fighter jets for this action.
The shocking thing is that this is the third major incident of infiltration into the Romanian border within the last three days, which has taken the tension in Eastern Europe to its peak.
F-16 attack in the sky
According to military officials, this incident occurred around 10:13 am on Sunday morning. An unidentified drone was spotted over Romania’s maritime territory, specifically over the Sulina-Chilia area. On the instructions of NATO’s operational command, two F-16 fighter jets immediately took off from Fetesti Air Base and successfully intercepted and destroyed this drone over the Black Sea.
Violation of NATO airspace
Preliminary investigation by officials has revealed that the destroyed drone was of the Shahid type, which is being used extensively by the Russian military in attacks against Ukraine. Colonel Martin O’Donnell, spokesman for NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), confirmed that this is the fourth such incident in recent times where Romania has shot down a drone violating NATO airspace.
Romania has further strengthened its security to deal with Russia’s growing drone threats. The country recently launched ‘MEROPS’ Counter-drone system has been acquired. This state-of-the-art system is capable of killing three-feet long cheap drones in the air by firing at them.
it can’t be tolerated
Romanian President Nicosor Dan has expressed strong displeasure over these actions of the Russian Federation. He said that repeated violations of Romania’s airspace are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. It is noteworthy that in May also, a Russian drone had lost its way and collided with a residential building in eastern Romania, injuring two people.
