Automobile Desk: The craze for premium adventure tourer bikes is increasing rapidly in the Indian two-wheeler market. If you are also planning to buy a strong adventure bike for long journeys and off-roading, then the competition between Royal Enfield's upcoming 'Himalayan 750' and the already launched 'BMW F 450 GS' looks quite interesting. Both the bikes are known for their strong performance and different riding experience in their respective categories. On one hand, Royal Enfield is going to come with big engine capacity and strong torque, on the other hand, BMW is competing with its light body and advanced features.
What is the difference between engine, performance and power?
Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 is being provided with a 743 cc air and oil-cooled parallel-twin engine. This powerful engine is capable of generating maximum power of 55 bhp and peak torque of 63 Nm. The company claims that 90 percent of its torque becomes available only at 3,500 rpm. This simply means that when you are traveling long distances on the highway or on steep mountain roads, you will not have to worry about changing gears frequently.
On the other hand, a 420 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine has been used in the German automaker's BMW F 450 GS. This engine gives power of 47 bhp and torque output of 43 Nm. This includes a 135-degree crankshaft offset, which gives it a distinctive engine sound and a distinct riding feel.
Weight and off-roading capacity
The weight of the bike matters a lot while riding, especially when it comes to difficult terrain or off-roading. In this case the BMW F 450 GS appears to have the upper hand. The total weight of this BMW adventure bike is 178 kg, while the weight of Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 is around 224 kg. Due to its light weight, BMW becomes very easy to handle in tight turns, unpaved roads and during traffic.
Talking about the suspension setup, the Himalayan 750 has Showa's adjustable suspension, which has a travel of 190 mm at the front and 175 mm at the rear. In terms of wheel size, both the bikes have 19-inch wheels at the front and 17-inch wheels at the rear.
Features and high-tech technology
In terms of technology and features, both the companies are trying to provide the best experience to their riders. Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 gets a 4-inch TFT console, which supports Google navigation. Apart from this, modern features like cruise control, traction control, cornering ABS and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) have been provided in it. Also, it includes 5 riding modes like Road, Road Sports, Rain, Trail and Custom for different conditions.
On the other hand, the BMW F 450 GS has a larger 6.5-inch TFT display. For safety and riding stability, it features ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control and Dynamic Brake Control. Modern features like Shift Assistant Pro and Easy Ride Clutch have also been provided in some of its variants, which eliminates the hassle of repeatedly pressing the clutch in heavy traffic.
Price and launch details
Talking about price and market availability, BMW F 450 GS has been officially launched in the Indian market in April 2026. Its starting ex-showroom price has been kept at Rs 4.95 lakh. The official launch date and exact price of Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 in the Indian market is yet to be announced. In such a situation, if you want to buy a bike immediately then BMW is an option, but if you want more power and torque then waiting for Himalayan 750 can be a wise decision.
