In the midst of the England tour, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started an internal investigation regarding the conduct and discipline of its team players. Aamir Mir, advisor to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, has confirmed this. He said that the matter is being investigated under the existing rules and procedures of the Board.
At present, PCB has not told about which incident or which players the investigation has been started. PCB has definitely said that all the people associated with the matter will be given a fair opportunity to present their side. The board has also asked to be cautious regarding unconfirmed claims and speculations going on on social media.
Amidst the PCB’s investigation, reports have emerged that the team’s security officer in London had seized the mobile phones of two Pakistani players. It is being told that the phone remained with him for several hours. Some unconfirmed reports have claimed that investigators are keeping an eye on the players’ activities in London and their alleged contacts with some people. However, the PCB has so far neither confirmed that the phones have been seized nor said whether the players’ mobile data was checked.
For this reason, at present these claims cannot be considered as official facts. If the investigation finds concrete evidence of violation of rules against any player, then the possibility of action like heavy fine or ban is being raised. However, PCB has not given any information regarding possible punishment.
Pakistan team’s tour of England is already going through difficult times. After the crushing defeat in the first Test at Lord’s, PCB made major changes in the Test team. Seven players were sent back to Pakistan midway through the tour. Apart from this, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were also removed.
