Consumers availing subsidized LPG, if they have not yet completed their biometric Aadhaar authentication, must do so immediately before October 1. Otherwise your gas connection will not be cut and you will continue to get cylinder delivery, but you will not get any subsidy on the cylinder and you will have to book refills at the market price. This authentication process can be completed through OMC's mobile apps, at the distributor's showroom or at the time of LPG delivery.
FD rules will change
As per the RBI's directives, from October 1, banks will be required to pay a uniform rate of interest to all branches and customers on the same amount deposited on the same date. As per RBI regulations, all small finance banks will now be required to update the list of FD interest rates on their official website by 10:00 am every day. The objective of this decision is to bring transparency and avoid discrimination in interest rates for customers with same deposit amount.
New Cash Withdrawal Rules of SBI
If you have an account with State Bank of India, this is an important news for you. State Bank is revising the cash withdrawal charges from Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts opened through branches. From October 1, cash withdrawals will be free four times a month. After this, account holders will be charged ₹15 plus applicable GST for each cash withdrawal.
Strict rules for registration of birth and death certificates
The government is introducing stricter rules for registration of birth and death certificates. Under the new rules, registration within 21 days of birth or death will be considered normal and will be completely free. During this period, birth and death certificates can be easily obtained from the hospital or local body (municipality/panchayat).
If the registration is delayed by more than 21 days, you will have to submit an affidavit along with the late fee. If the registration is after one year but within two years, the approval of the competent Executive Magistrate will be required. In case of non-registration after two years, approval of the Magistrate of the First Class will be required.
New NPS Scheme
Good news for NPS members. A new scheme called 'NPS Health' will be launched soon, which will provide healthcare benefits along with retirement savings. Under this scheme, members will get a separate super top-up health insurance policy linked to their 'NPS Health' account. The scheme is likely to be launched on October 1, 2026, and will benefit approximately 21.7 million NPS members across the country.
Property purchase will also be easy
Buyers buying property from NRI sellers will also get relief from October 1. Under the new Income Tax rules, resident individual buyers and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) will no longer need to obtain a TAN to purchase property from NRI sellers. Instead, they can claim and deduct TDS using their PAN number. This change will be effective from 1 October 2026.
Household appliances will be expensive
During the festive season, major manufacturers of LED TVs, air conditioners, washing machines and other appliances will increase their prices by 5% to 8% from October 1. This will be the third rate hike this year. According to a report, companies are doing so due to rising prices of copper, steel and crude oil products. Besides, currency fluctuations due to current tensions in West Asia are also contributing to this.
Govt tough on PUC
The government has made a big announcement to curb the rising air pollution in Delhi during winter. Under this, it has been decided to start the implementation campaign from October 1, 2026. Under this, a hefty fine of Rs 10,000 will be levied on those driving without a valid pollution certificate PUCC. This means that from October 1, teams of transport department and traffic police will be deployed on Delhi roads and the Delhi-NCR border to check PUC certificates of vehicles. Under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed for not having a valid pollution certificate. There is also a provision of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 6 months or both.
Update on free travel for women in Delhi
The rules of free travel for women in DTC and cluster buses in Delhi will change from October 1, 2026. Under this, women will now be required to use 'Saheli Pink Smart Card' for free travel in buses. Previously, pink colored paper tickets were used, which will no longer be valid from September 30.
From October 1, you will have to tap your card at the Electronic Ticket Machine (ETM) while boarding the bus. Without the card, you will not be eligible for free travel and will have to purchase a ticket like any other passenger.
