Rules for VC appointment changed in Bihar universities, know who will benefit

A major change has been made in the rules for the appointment of Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor in 10 major universities of Bihar. The Governor’s Secretariat has removed the mandatory condition of 10 years of experience imposed earlier to become the Vice Chancellor. Along with this, the last date of application has also been extended.

 

On the instructions of the Governor-cum-Chancellor, Additional Secretary Sanjay Kumar has issued an order in this regard. Now interested candidates will be able to apply till 11:59 pm on 28 July 2026. With the implementation of the new rules, more number of qualified teachers will be able to apply.

What has the new rule changed?

In the earlier advertisement, it was said that for the post of Vice Chancellor, it is necessary to have 10 years of experience as a professor. Due to this condition many qualified professors were not able to apply. Now this condition has been removed. According to the new order, eligibility for the post of Vice-Chancellor will be decided on the basis of Clause 6.3 (VI) of UGC Regulation-2018. That is, now the eligibility will be determined as per the UGC rules and the mandatory condition of 10 years of experience will not be applicable.

In which 10 universities will the new rules be applicable?

This revised rule will be applicable to the appointment of Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor in these 10 universities of Bihar:

  • Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna
  • Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga
  • Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University
  • Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, Madhepura
  • Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur
  • Jaiprakash University, Chhapra
  • Veer Kunwar Singh University, Arrah
  • Maulana Mazharul Haq Arabic and Persian University, Patna
  • Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University
  • Magadh University, Bodhgaya

You can apply till 28th July

Along with the change in the rules, the Governor’s Secretariat has also extended the date of application. Earlier the last date of application was in the second week of July. Now it has been extended to July 28, 2026, 11:59 pm. Those candidates who had not applied till now, now have additional time of 16 days. They can apply after checking their eligibility as per the new rules.

 

The Governor’s Secretariat has made it clear that apart from this change in eligibility and date, all other terms and conditions of the previously issued advertisements will remain the same. University teachers are happy after the change in rules. Many professors say that they were not able to apply because of the 10-year condition. Now as the eligibility is decided by the UGC rules, more and more eligible people will be able to participate in this race.
