51-year-old Russell Brand is accused of taking advantage of his fame between 1999 and 2009 to commit crimes like rape thrice, sexual assault thrice and indecent assault once against six women. He denies all these allegations.
In this famous celebrity trial that started in London's Southwark Crown Court, it was told that this child-like TV star used to woo women with his comedy and antics. During the trial, the jury was told that the sex-obsessed Brand (who is now married and a father of three) had bragged to his friends that he was an expert in seducing women. Prosecutor Riel Carmi-Jones KC said Brand used to make fun of women. If a woman rejected his proposal, he would tell her not to spoil the fun. He told the jurors that nothing had any effect on the accused. His desire for sexual intercourse was wild and uncontrolled. He could behave well whenever he wanted, could be funny and was extremely charming. Even when he wanted something in return. He was a man who imposed his will, considered himself entitled to everything and had a very high sexual desire. Like a child, he expected that all his wishes should be fulfilled.
The court was told that as Brand's acting career progressed and he became a Hollywood star, he committed sexual assaults in front of everyone. A woman had also complained, but TV executives ignored her. The jury was told that according to his friends, he had a strong desire for sex. He could go to any extent to get what he wanted, no matter what it was. He used to treat women as if they had no importance.
Took off clothes as soon as I entered the room
Brand is accused of carrying out his first attack in 1999 on a woman who had come to attend the Labor Party conference in Bournemouth. It is alleged that during a show, he seduced the victim and called her to a hotel room. It is reported that the victim was shocked to see that the accused had taken off his clothes to some extent and was moving around the room in a strange manner, just like the character 'Basil Fawlty' from 'Fawlty Towers'. Brand told the victim, 'It's okay, that's just the way I am, don't worry.' After this he asked the victim to take his photographs.
Woman left crying after raping
Victim Carmi-Jones said Brand pushed the woman onto the bed and raped her. Russell Brand then made excuses about how everything happened so quickly, and then left, saying he had to go back to his mother. He left the victim there in shock and crying. Brand, who was seen outside the court on Wednesday, has been booked on three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one case of indecent assault.
