Russia-Ukraine War: Russia claims to have captured Konstantinovka in Ukraine, know what Putin said

Moscow, July 4. The Kremlin has claimed a major military success in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine amid the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia says that its army has completely established control over the strategically important city of Konstantinovka. However, this claim could not be independently verified and there was no immediate official reaction from Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday that Konstantinovka is now fully under the control of the Russian military, according to Russian news agency RIA Novosti. The city is considered an important industrial and transportation center of the Donetsk region.

  • Putin said strategically important

Following this announcement, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a temporary command post of the joint military group. He said that control of Konstantinovka is a major strategic achievement for Russia’s military operation. According to Putin, since the beginning of the year 2026, the Russian army has established control over 133 settlements and more than 3,000 square kilometers of territory in the Donbass and Novorossiya region.

  • Buffer zone will have to be increased for security.

President Putin accused Ukraine of targeting Russia’s border areas and said that if such attacks continue, Russia will create a larger security buffer zone on the border to protect its citizens. He said that Russia will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure the security of its border areas.

  • Big claim on Luhansk too

Putin also claimed that Russian forces had completely “liberated” the Luhansk People’s Republic. According to him, operations are now underway against Ukrainian military targets in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as the remaining parts of Donetsk.

  • Drone attack on Moscow failed

Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that 28 Ukrainian drones sent towards the capital Moscow since Friday were shot down by Russian air defense systems. He said eight more drones heading towards the capital were also destroyed on Friday night. At present, emergency services teams are engaged in relief and investigation work in the areas where debris fell. Amidst the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, both sides are continuously claiming military superiority. Independent verification of many claims coming from the war zone has not been possible at present.
