Charleroi Airport in Brussels – Belgium’s second largest airport – will close for an 11-weeks period in 2028 as its runway is renovated and the airport is revamped.
About two million travellers are expected to be impacted, included are Ryanair passengers.
Several carriers operate flights to and from the airport, including Wizz Air, and airlines will be forced to temporarily reroute their flights to different airports.
All flights between August 15 and October 31, 2028 will be impacted.
This will include passengers travelling during both the school summer holidays and October half-term break.
The airport will undergo several changed, which is expected cost around €50million (£42.8million).
The works include a complete resurfacing of the airport’s 3,200 metre runway.
At present, there is no further information of what this will look like, but it could mean flights are either cancelled or diverted.
“A complete refurbishment of Charleroi airport’s sole runway, together with other major infrastructure modernisation works, has been scheduled by SOWAER (the company behind the works) for the second half of 2028,” the airport stated, according to several reports.
