S Jaishankar Qatar Visit Discusses With PM Al-Thani: Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani on Sunday in the first stop of his visit to the Gulf countries. This meeting is taking place at a time when Qatar is emerging as a major mediator to reduce tensions between America and Iran.
Emphasis on strategic partnership
During the meeting, both the leaders talked about various aspects of bilateral cooperation between India and Qatar. S. Jaishankar took to social media platform ‘X’ While sharing information, he said that the main focuses of discussion were energy, trade, investment, connectivity and security. Both countries have agreed to explore new opportunities to further strengthen their strategic partnership. Let us tell you that Qatar has been a reliable partner of India in the field of energy security.

What was the main issue in the meeting?
A large part of the meeting focused on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and its potential implications. Jaishankar and Al-Thani stressed the need to maintain stability and peace in the region. It is worth noting that after the funeral rituals of Iran’s supreme leader, talks are going on between the US and Iran in Doha, in which Qatar and Oman are playing the role of mediator.
Meeting with representatives of the Indian community
During his visit, the External Affairs Minister also met representatives of the large Indian community living in Qatar. He appreciated the experiences and suggestions of the Indian diaspora and described it as strengthening the India-Qatar partnership.
Jaishankar particularly expressed his gratitude to the Government of Qatar for ensuring the safety and welfare of the Indian community. He said that the commitment of Indians towards the Qatari society even in difficult circumstances is truly commendable.

Will leave for New York on July 13
After Qatar, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will meet the top leadership of Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman. After completing the visit to these four Gulf countries, Jaishankar will leave for New York on July 13. There he will launch India’s official campaign for the 2028-29 term on the UN Security Council. Immediately thereafter, on 14-15 July, he will also participate in the India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting in Brussels.
