In an interview given to Big Bollywood Buff, Saba Pataudi told that she is very religious and believes in Islam. Although she also said that she respects all religions, her mother taught her Islam. She said, I consider myself religious and feel a deep connection with Islam. If I think about God, for me he is Allah. But I respect all other religions also. Saba further told that when her mother Sharmila Tagore married Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, she had converted to Islam and taught Islam to her children.
Gave a lesson not to stray from the path
Saba says that her mother taught Islam to all her children so that they would not stray from the path and so that they could get some kind of basis for their life. According to Saba, her mother never pressured her to adopt any religion. He always gave complete freedom that they can follow their religion based on their faith.

He further mentioned that he did not practice any religion other than Islam because there was no temple where he lived. So that they could practice it. He said that Hinduism was not worshiped in his house and he did not even go to the temple. He gave me an understanding of Islam.

Saba Pataudi's mother and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore had converted to Islam after marrying Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
