Sonam Wangchuk News: A very shocking story has come to light behind the scenes of the student movement that lasted for 45 days at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar which created a stir in the political circles of the country. Well-known social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has become the biggest face of the movement, has claimed that as aggressive and adamant as this protest looked from outside, from within its leadership was equally nervous and confused. According to Wangchuk, as the crowd dwindled, the leaders of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), who were leading the movement, started losing their courage and were looking for an exit route from the movement in a respectable manner.

Describing the internal situation of the movement in the podcast, Wangchuk said that even though it was being announced from the stage that no one would step back until the demands were met, the reality was different. He said, “I do not want to take anyone’s name, but one or two people in the leadership repeatedly raised the question as to how to end this movement? There came a time when some leaders folded hands and told me, Sir, we want to get out of here, find a way.”
Wangchuk said that this dual attitude of the leaders was due to their ‘political mindset’. As soon as the crowd at Jantar Mantar started decreasing after 8-9 days, the morale of the leadership directly dropped.
Rahul Gandhi’s name was also considered to end the fast.
Wangchuk claimed that the situation had become very weak before the July 20 Parliament march. The organizers felt that nothing concrete would come out of the movement. In such a situation, many options were being considered to give a respectable end to the protest and break Wangchuk’s fast. Meanwhile, the name of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had also come up with the request that the fast should be ended through him, so that it could be given a big political turn.
The lathicharge of 20th July suddenly changed the entire atmosphere.
According to Wangchuk, the ‘Parliament March’ of July 20 suddenly gave new energy to the sinking ship of the movement. In fact, on July 18, Wangchuk was forcibly picked up from the protest site and admitted to the hospital. After this, there was a clash and lathi charge with the police in the march taken out on 20th July. After this confrontation and strictness, anger erupted again among the youth and the crowd gathered again at Jantar Mantar, which gave life to the movement.
Wangchuk had tested CJP leaders before the fast.
Wangchuk also revealed that he was not ready to join the movement from day one. Wangchuk was on his way to a pre-scheduled science conference in Switzerland when the CJP decided to start protests from June 20 and appealed to him to sit on a fast.
Wangchuk set a condition to test the intentions and determination of the leadership. He said that he would return and join on June 28 and wanted to see if the young leaders could handle the platform on their own for 8 days. Only when the leaders held the front for 8 days, Wangchuk joined the movement on June 28 and started a hunger strike.
