Salman Khan got relief from Delhi High Court, gave strict instructions to the makers of the film ‘Black Deer’

Mumbai:Bollywood actor Salman Khan has got a big legal relief from the Delhi High Court in the case of protection of ‘personality rights’. The court has issued strict instructions to remove the teaser of the controversial film ‘Black Deer: The Battle for Legacy’ related to the actor and all the social media links related to it within 24 hours.

During the hearing, the bench of Justice Jyoti Singh expressed strong displeasure over the attitude of the film’s producer Amit Jani. The court scolded the producer in a clear tone and said, it seems that you have started considering yourself above the law. Without a strict stance of the court, this kind of inappropriate behavior is not acceptable. While commenting, the bench also added that once a person’s honor and reputation is lost, it is impossible to get it back.

What is the whole controversy?

This whole matter is about a film being made inspired by the famous black buck case of 1998 and the court incidents related to it. Senior lawyers appearing on behalf of Salman Khan argued that the film is being produced under the banner of ‘Jaani Firefox Films’. The film does not directly name the actor, but a Salman look-alike has been used in its promotional material, posters and teasers.

Main points raised in the petition

• Misuse of identification marks: The character shown in the teaser is seen wearing Salman Khan’s famous turquoise (blue stone) bracelet, which is his special identity in public.
• Wrong Image Creation: A gun is shown in the character’s hand, while the actor has been acquitted by the court in a case related to the Arms Act.
• Impact on the matter under consideration: In the main case of 1998, after the acquittal in three cases, the appeal is pending, in such a situation, such a misleading portrayal can affect the ongoing judicial process and public perception.

The lawyer of the producer side clarified that there is no direct name of Salman Khan in the film nor has any deepfake or AI technology been used in it. But the High Court rejected this argument and ordered digital platforms like X and YouTube that if the creators themselves do not remove these materials, then the platforms should immediately take them down.
