A viral screenshot claiming Samay Raina has joined LinkedIn as its Head of Communications & Ethics sparked buzz on the internet, but it turned out to be fake, with no credible evidence to back it up.
The screenshot attributes the claim to The Daily Ledgerbut the article couldn’t be independently verified, and LinkedIn has made no such announcement.
The Daily Ledger is a real American newspaper based in Illinois, but the specific report about the 28-year-old comedian appears to be satire.
LinkedIn creator G Harshith Aditya Varma also called out the headline as fake in a post of his own.
The claim surfaced right after Samay found himself in another controversy, this time over a roast segment with fellow comedian Sharon Verma on India’s Got Latent Season 2where the two traded jokes about their Bihar and Kashmir backgrounds.
Samay had said, “She’s so Bihari, she thinks Ebola means someone said something,” to which Sharon replied, “Samay is so Kashmiri, he loves getting stoned.” Samay then added, “You know, Sharon Verma is a Bihari who came to Mumbai in search of a job. Just Bihari things,” prompting Sharon’s retort, “At least I left my state by my choice.”
The exchange, meant as a roast, sparked backlash once clips spread online, drawing reactions from several political figures including BJP’s Ram Kadam, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Nirupam, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Anand Dubey, Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, and actor Manoj Bajpayee.
