The number of people who died in the accident in Delhi's Satya Niketan has now increased to 7. Another body was recovered during the removal of debris on Monday morning. So far, a total of 12 people have been rescued from the debris. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the matter and the negligence of the officers, a Deputy Commissioner and four engineers of Delhi Municipal Corporation i.e. a total of 5 people have been suspended. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta again reached the spot on Monday morning and took stock of the rescue operation.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has said that so far 12 people have been pulled out from the debris, while the exact number of people trapped under the debris is not yet known. This rescue operation is expected to continue throughout the day on Monday also. NDRF Inspector General (IG) Narendra Bundela said that the Central Disaster Response Force does not have any definite data on the number of people trapped under the debris. He said that the NDRF is using cutters, hydraulic jacks and trained dogs to search for signs of people being alive at the spot.

Who was suspended?
The five officers suspended by MCD include a Deputy Commissioner, an Executive Engineer, Superintendent Engineer, Assistant Engineer and a Junior Engineer. Suspended Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar looked after the work of South Zone. Apart from them, South Zone Superintendent Engineer Ranveer Singh, Executive Engineer Lalit Kumar, Assistant Engineer Sunil Chauhan and Junior Engineer Ashish Kumar have also been suspended.
