New Delhi: Patiala House Court has sent accused Sudhanshu and Shubham Tyagi to judicial custody for 12 days in the case of collapse of five-storey PG building in Satya Niketan area of the capital Delhi on September 6. According to Delhi Police, both the accused were allegedly running PG in the building that collapsed in the accident.
Repair work was going on in the basement
On September 6, a five-storey building in Satya Niketan suddenly collapsed. At the time of the accident, repair work was going on in the basement of the building. Seven people died in this tragic accident, while three people were seriously injured.
According to the information, this building, which is about 40-50 years old, was reportedly made up of five floors instead of the prescribed three floors. After the accident, serious questions have been raised regarding illegal construction, ignoring safety standards and negligence.
Many accused including building owner arrested
Police have arrested 81-year-old building owner Hariram Gupta, his 75-year-old wife Urmila Gupta and son Mahesh Gupta in the case. Hariram Gupta and Urmila Gupta have already been sent to police custody for 14 days. Now with the arrest of PG operators, the scope of investigation has increased further.
DU students were also staying
Many students of Delhi University were living in this PG. Young students from Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh were also among the dead. Abhishek (20), Yuvraj Soni (20), Pawan (17), Arpit Jahaz (19) and Akshat Singh Yadav (18), along with 75-year-old laborer Surinder Singh died in the accident.
Hearing in Delhi High Court also
The PIL filed in the Delhi High Court regarding the matter was also heard. The court has issued notices to Delhi Government, Central Government, MCD, Delhi Police, Delhi University and NHRC seeking their response. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said to appear on behalf of Delhi Government, Center and MCD. The next hearing of the case will be on September 25.
