Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi has demanded to be made a party in the PIL related to the Satya Niketan building accident. The Central Government has opposed this demand in the Delhi High Court. On behalf of the government, it was argued in the court that Kiran Bedi had already formed her opinion in this matter. During the hearing of the case, the High Court has given three days time to the Central Government to file its reply. After this the court will hear further in this matter. According to Bar & Bench, the case is being heard by a division bench of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia. During the hearing, the court said that Kiran Bedi's extensive experience in the field of administration can be used in this case. After this stance of the court, further hearing will be held on Kiran Bedi's demand to be made a party in the PIL. However, the central government has opposed their demand and has sought three days' time from the court to file its reply on this.
Government expressed protest
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, appearing for the Central Government, Delhi Government and MCD, opposed the demand to make Kiran Bedi a party in the PIL. He told the court that the government will register its objection to the application to be made a party filed by Bedi in this case. Chetan Sharma said that a detailed reply will be filed by the government in this regard. He asked the court for time to file its reply, after which the High Court gave three days time to the government. After this the court will further consider Kiran Bedi's application.
Government's argument- She has already formed her opinion
During the hearing, the court said that Kiran Bedi is a conscious citizen and has extensive experience in the administrative field. Describing this matter as being of great public interest, the court said that his long experience can be used. The court also asked the government not to take the matter in an adversarial manner. However, ASG Chetan Sharma, appearing for the Centre, Delhi government and MCD, opposed it citing the application for impleadment filed by Kiran Bedi. He said that Bedi has already formed her opinion in this matter, hence the government will register objection to her application. Chetan Sharma told the court that a reply will be filed on behalf of the government on the application to be made a party. The High Court has given the government three days to file its objections.
Court's comment on the accident
Delhi High Court, during the hearing regarding the collapse of multi-storey hostel building in Satya Niketan, said that it was not a normal accident. Seven people died in this accident, most of whom were students. The court said that the students who lost their lives had come to the country's capital from small towns with the hope of their career and a better future. But his dreams were shattered due to the “reckless and criminal conduct” of some people.
