Saudi Arabia Crackdown: Major action against illegal immigrants in Saudi Arabia, 11,297 people expelled from the country in a week

Security forces have taken major action against immigrants living illegally in Saudi Arabia. Thousands of people have been arrested in this operation which ran between the third and fourth week of June. The government has made it clear that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules. This action has created panic among all the migrants living there.

The Ministry of Interior said that a joint investigation operation was conducted between June 18 and June 24. A total of 15,231 illegal immigrants were arrested during this period. Of those caught, 7,589 were found to be in violation of the Residency Law, 4,443 were found to be in violation of the Border Security Law and 3,199 were found to be in violation of the Labor Law.

Of those arrested, 11,297 illegal immigrants were immediately deported. At the same time, 15,109 people were sent to their embassy so that they could obtain travel documents. Apart from this, 3,618 people have been sent to complete travel reservations.

Attempts to cross the border and other arrests

Security officials also caught 1,763 people who were trying to enter Saudi Arabia’s border illegally. Of these, 55 percent were Ethiopian citizens, 44 percent were Yemeni citizens and 1 percent were people from other countries. Additionally, 53 people were caught trying to leave the country illegally. 22 people were detained for allegedly providing accommodation, jobs or transport to violators.

Currently, legal action is being taken against 16,369 migrants, which include 24,334 men and 2,073 women.

Strict punishment for those who help

The Ministry of Interior has warned that anyone involved in entering the country, harboring, transporting or providing any kind of assistance to illegal immigrants can be jailed for up to 15 years. They will also have to pay a fine of up to 10 lakh riyals and their house or vehicle will be confiscated.

An appeal has been made to the general public to report any violations. People in Mecca, Riyadh and the Eastern Province can call 911, while people in other areas can give information on numbers 999 and 996.
