The month of Sawan is considered the most sacred and auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva. Throughout this month, Shiva devotees perform Jalabhishek, Rudrabhishek, worship and fast on Mondays to please Lord Bholenath. It is believed that Lord Shiva fulfills the wishes of the devotees by worshiping Shiva with true faith and rituals in Sawan.

In the year 2026, the month of Shravan will start from Thursday, July 30. The dates of Sawan Monday falling in this month are as follows.

1. Consecrate Lord Shiva as per rituals.

Every day of Sawan or on Monday, take bath in the morning, wear clean clothes and worship Lord Shiva. Do Panchamrit Abhishek on Shivling with Ganga water, pure water, milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar. After this, offer Bel leaves, sandalwood and flowers and chant the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivay’. It is believed that one receives special blessings from Lord Shiva.

2. Consume satvik food during fast

It is considered best to eat satvik food during Sawan fast. If you are eating fruits then use only rock salt. During this period, maintain complete distance from garlic, onion, non-vegetarian food, alcohol and other Tamasic food. Both mind and body remain pure with satvik diet.

3. Be sure to offer things dear to Lord Shiva.

In the worship of Bholenath, Belpatra, Dhatura, Bhang, Sandalwood, Aak flowers and Shami Patra are considered to have special importance. By offering these things to Shivalinga with devotion, the results of the worship increase manifold and Lord Shiva becomes pleased quickly.

4. Do morning and evening puja as well.

It is considered auspicious to worship Lord Shiva not only in the morning but also in the evening during Sawan. In the evening, light a lamp and perform Shiva Aarti, recite Shiva Chalisa and chant Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. This brings positive energy into the house and the problems of life gradually start going away.

5. Avoid anger and negative behavior

Sawan fast is not only related to food, but also to the purity of thoughts and behavior. During this time one should avoid anger, lies, deceit, harsh words and insulting anyone. There is a religious belief that the person who worships Lord Shiva with restraint, humility and devotion, gets the special blessings of Mahadev and brings happiness and prosperity in his life.
