Security Guard Arrested for Raping 7‑Year‑Old Girl in Mumbai Washroom
Mumbai witnessed shock and anger after a seven‑year‑old girl was allegedly raped by a security guard inside a washroom in the Pydhonie area on Sunday.
Police said the child was rushed to hospital for treatment, while the accused watchman was arrested immediately.
The incident triggered widespread protests, with hundreds of residents gathering outside the Pydhonie police station demanding the strictest punishment. Demonstrators blocked the main road, disrupting traffic, and raised slogans against the accused. Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar visited the station to assess the situation but was surrounded by angry protesters before police restored order. Heavy deployment remains in place to prevent further unrest.
South Zone‑3 DCP Vijaykant Mangesh Sagar confirmed that a case has been registered under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections. The accused will be produced in court on Monday.
Meanwhile, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar condemned the assault as “outrageous and extremely serious,” calling for speedy trials in child sexual offence cases and immediate implementation of the Shakti Act to strengthen deterrence. He also prayed for the girl’s recovery.
