Security removed from Mamta and Abhishek Banerjee’s residence? CP Ajay Nanda gave clarification, know

Kolkata. Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Nanda has clarified the situation regarding security arrangements amid the ongoing political tension and incidents of violence after the elections in the city. He said that security has not been completely removed from the residences of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, but the additional police units have only been reduced.

The CP said that the security arrangements on the ground are fully in place as per the rules and there has been no laxity. He said that changes are made in the deployment of security forces as per the need.

Strict warning on violence after elections-
Amidst the incidents of violence and vandalism taking place in the state after the elections, the Police Commissioner warned that the use of bulldozers in processions is completely banned. He said that if any person or organization rents bulldozers for such work, legal action will be taken against them.

He appealed to the citizens to immediately contact the police in case of any problem. He also informed that 65 police units have been deployed for security in the city.

Action intensified after the instructions of the Election Commission-
This statement has come at a time when the Election Commission of India has given instructions to implement ‘zero tolerance’ policy on post-poll violence in the state and immediate arrest of the culprits.

CP said that so far 80 people have been arrested and many weapons have also been recovered. He also said that strict action will be taken against those inciting violence and the police is working closely with the central forces.

Security of other leaders also reviewed-
Police said that the security arrangements at the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and several senior leaders like Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas and Sujit Bose are also being reviewed. The security arrangements are being changed from time to time as per the situation.

Election results and current situation-
Bharatiya Janata Party has secured a huge majority in the recently held assembly elections, after which political tension has increased further in the state. Meanwhile, incidents of violence, firing and vandalism have also come to light at some places.

Police say that the situation is being constantly monitored and all necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order.
