He started this journey by paying obeisance at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib and described it as a medium of expressing gratitude towards God. This journey will end at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on 9th May.
Government’s stance on strict law
The Chief Minister said in clear words that now if anyone tries to disrespect Sri Guru Granth Sahib, he will have to spend his entire life in jail. He said that ‘Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satikar (Amendment) Act 2026’ is a historic step, which will not only give strict punishment to the culprits, but will also play an important role in preventing such incidents in future.
Purpose of ‘Shukrana Yatra’
CM Mann said that this visit is not for any political purpose, but to thank the power which gave the government the opportunity to implement this law. He said that he does not give himself credit for this work, but considers it to be the grace of Guru Sahib.
He also wrote on social media that prayers will continue for the peace, brotherhood and welfare of Punjab.
Historical and religious context
Recalling the historical importance of Sri Anandpur Sahib, CM Mann said that this is the holy land where Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa Panth in 1699. He also said that the Punjab Government has given the status of holy city to Amritsar, Talwandi Sabo and Sri Anandpur Sahib, which will give a new impetus to the development of these areas.
Support of public and saint community
