Serious questions raised on ChatGPT, husband claims – wife planned murder with AI, legal war against OpenAI

New Delhi. Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI has now become a part of people's everyday life, but with its increasing use, risks and controversies related to it have also started coming to the fore. For this reason, a case reported from North Carolina, America, is in the news where ChatGPT has been accused of allegedly helping in a murder conspiracy. In this case, a man has accused his wife of planning to kill him by poisoning him and claimed to have taken the help of ChatGPT for this. The matter is so serious that the victim's husband has filed a case in the court against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman.

According to media reports, a man named James Gates alleged that his wife Cheryl used ChatGPT to plan his murder. James came to know of the alleged conspiracy when he found a handwritten note from his wife. The name of some substances and their quantity was mentioned in this note. Along with this, the matter of calling him deadly also came to light. According to James, instructions like deleting the conversation and logging out of ChatGPT were also written in the note. On the basis of these things, he expressed serious apprehension about his wife's alleged plan.

According to the lawsuit filed in the case, there was tension in the marital relationship between James and Cheryl. Meanwhile, Cheryl was reportedly using ChatGPT continuously. The husband alleges that the AI chatbot was used to plan the murder. However, the ultimate truth of these allegations will become clear only after the investigation and legal process unfolding in the court. Right now these are allegations and they are yet to be proved in the court.

This case has once again intensified the debate regarding the responsibility of AI companies. The question is arising that if a person tries to take information from AI for any dangerous or illegal work, then to what extent should the AI system stop him and to what extent should the responsibility of the companies be fixed. Systems like ChatGPT are generally developed with security measures in place to prevent them from facilitating dangerous activities, but the effectiveness of these security measures in such cases is questionable.

Many lawsuits have already been filed against OpenAI in America. In October, there were reports of cases being filed against the company by several states. These alleged that AI chatbots could harm children and people living in vulnerable situations and give wrong or dangerous advice. In some cases, allegations were also made that chatbots could increase people's confusion and mental distress and create risks associated with activities such as suicide or harming other people.

  • This case of North Carolina is also considered important because in this the use of AI is being directly linked to the alleged murder plan. However, it is important to note that the allegations made in the lawsuit have not yet been legally proven. Only further investigation and court action will clarify what was the actual role of ChatGPT in the alleged scheme and how much truth is there in the allegations.
