There is resentment among the local people regarding the construction work of public toilet being built on the banks of the river in the famous religious place Kotarnath Dham complex of Halia area. The villagers and the people present on the spot allege that this building is being built for public use.
The prescribed standards are not being followed in the construction of toilets and serious carelessness is being taken regarding quality in the construction work. According to the local people, the kind of arrangement that should be made for making a pit and base for the construction of a toilet is not visible on the spot. People say that neither the pit has been prepared properly nor proper quality material is being used in the construction, which affects the strength of the construction and its future.
Questions are being raised regarding usefulness. Due to the construction of a public toilet right on the banks of the river, local people say that along with the construction, proper arrangements for drainage of dirty water and waste management are also very important, but questions are being raised regarding these arrangements at the construction site. The people present on the spot alleged that the construction work was being carried out only for the sake of fulfillment and an attempt was being made to extort money by showing that the work was complete. villagers say
That in a place where a large number of devotees and local people reach, the facility of public toilet is definitely necessary, but if shoddy construction is done in the name of convenience, it can lead to misuse of government funds as well as cause problems to the people. Local people told that the construction of public toilet is being done through some organization, but what standards and technical rules are being followed by the organization in the construction.
People are not aware of this. Villagers say that the quality of the construction work should be checked by a competent technical officer on the spot, so that it can be clear whether the material is being used in the construction as per the prescribed standards or not and whether the depth and structure of the pit being built for the toilet is as per the rules or not. People have also demanded that the land should be used in construction work.
Along with checking the quality of the material, the entire construction process should be investigated and if any kind of irregularity is found, action should be taken against the concerned institution and the responsible officials. Villagers say that no carelessness should be accepted in the public toilets being built for the convenience of the devotees visiting the religious place. Taking cognizance of the entire matter, people have demanded from the administration to conduct an on-site inspection of the spot and reveal the actual status of the construction work. If this is not done then it may be difficult to remove the quality related defects later after the construction is completed and there may also be a loss of government money. At present, there has been no official response from the concerned organization or departmental officials on the allegations made regarding the construction work. In such a situation, it has to be seen whether the administration and the concerned department conduct an investigation in this matter and answer the questions being raised regarding the quality of construction or whether the construction work continues like this despite the complaints.
