Shaheen Afridi Record: Shaheen Afridi created history, did what even Wasim Akram-Waqar Younis could not do!
PAK vs AUS 2nd ODI: Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi created a unique history in the second ODI match being played against Australia at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Shaheen has made his place in a very exclusive club of legendary captains of Pakistan by taking a wicket on the very first ball of the match.
Pakistan won the toss at the beginning of the match and chose to bowl first. Captain Shaheen himself brought the first over and bowled the very first ball outside the off-stump. Australian opener Alex Carey was tempted to play a shot on this, but the ball took the inner edge of his bat and hit the stumps directly. Carey returned to the pavilion without opening the account and the Pakistani camp went into celebration after getting this big wicket on the very first ball.
Entry into the special club of Akram and Waqar
With this wicket, Shaheen Afridi, as Pakistani captain, has become only the third bowler in history to take a wicket on the very first ball of the match. Before him, only two great captains had achieved this feat in the history of Pakistan cricket.
Wasim Akram (1993): As captain, Wasim Akram achieved this feat by dismissing Andy Flower on the very first ball of the match in Karachi ODI against Zimbabwe in December 1993.
Waqar Younis (2001): After this, in June 2001, Waqar Younis did this feat by bowling out Marcus Trescothick on the very first ball of the innings in the Headingley ODI against England.
Now, after a long wait of almost two decades, Shaheen Shah Afridi has registered his name with these two greats. Shaheen, famous for creating a stir with the new ball, once again proved why he is considered the most dangerous fast bowler of the current era, and his achievement as a captain will always be remembered.
