Shahrukh Khan: Relief for Shahrukh Khan! Mannat will increase? The court dismissed ‘those’ petitions against renewal
The renovation of actors Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s famous ‘Mannat’ bungalow in Mumbai has finally received the approval of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dismissed the petition challenging the renewal, stating that homeowners have the right to alter their properties within the framework of the law. The petitioner had claimed that the necessary environmental clearances and other statutory norms for the expansion of the ‘Mannat’ bungalow had not been complied with. It was also mentioned in the petition that the approval of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is mandatory for projects costing more than Rs 5 crore.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Suryakant stated that ‘Mannat’ is a private residence and clarified that there is no objection to its renewal if the law is followed. The court also rejected the plea to refer the matter back to the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Earlier the NGT had also rejected the appeal against the CRZ and environmental clearance granted for the extension of the ‘Mannat’ bungalow. The arbitrator had clarified that all necessary permissions for the project had been obtained as per the rules. Meanwhile, Gauri Khan had proposed to build two more floors on the six-storey annex building of ‘Mannat’. The proposal had sparked controversy over environmental clearance. However, with the NGT and subsequently the Supreme Court also rejecting the petition, the way for the extension of ‘Mannat’ has now been officially cleared.
