Pop icon Shakira has vowed to rebuild her country after massive disaster.

The Colombia singer visited Quibdó, which is the capital of the Colombian province of Chocó, on August 17.

The singer announced that she will be helping rebuild the schools in Colombia after the recent 7.4-magnitude earthquake left the area damaged.

The Hips Don’t Lie singer vowed a $1.25 million commitment to rebuild affected schools.

In a statement, the singer said “These past few days, I’ve watched my country suffer, but I’ve also watched people come together with the resilience and solidarity that has always defined us.”

The 49-year-old said “Chocó is not alone. Colombia is not alone. And we will keep going.”

As per the press release, the aid includes $500,000 from the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a $500,000 match to the Fund from Live Nation and $250,000 from CAF.

She also announced help to her efforts to reconstruct Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó Diego Luis Córdoba, the department’s main public higher education institution.

Shakira has also urged other nations to step in and contribute to the rebuilding of Colombia.
