Sharad Pawar will get the biggest blow? The midnight meeting increased the stir
Once again there is an atmosphere of suspense and turmoil in the politics of Maharashtra. Whatever happened at ‘Varsha’, the official residence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis late on Tuesday night, has heated up discussions in the political circles. In the dark of night, the separate meetings of veteran leader Jayant Patil of Sharad Pawar faction and Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare of Ajit Pawar faction with the CM have surprised everyone. Now the question is arising whether a new political equation is taking shape in Maharashtra, or was this just a formal meeting?
What is the meaning of long closed door conversations?
According to sources, Chief Minister Fadnavis had a long and detailed discussion with these three leaders in a closed room. However, there is silence on what was the agenda of the meeting. Jayant Patil’s presence has grabbed the most headlines as he is considered to be Sharad Pawar’s closest and trusted soldier. At the same time, Praful Patel and Tatkare are already with the Mahayuti government, hence their meeting is also being seen from a different perspective.
Sound of break in Sharad Pawar group?
There is talk in political circles that Sharad Pawar’s party is facing organizational challenges ever since Ajit Pawar rebelled in July 2023. Sources claim that many MLAs from the opposition camp are upset over not getting funds for development works in their assembly constituencies, due to which they are planning to side with the ruling party. It is being said that Jayant Patil has informed the party leadership about this entire incident and the stand of the MLAs, although Sharad Pawar has till now maintained silence on it.
Why has Congress’s concern increased?
These meetings have increased the tension not only of the Sharad Pawar faction but also of the Congress, which is part of the opposition alliance ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’. Experts say that if a large part of the Sharad Pawar faction changes sides and moves closer to the NDA, it can prove to be a big blow to the opposition camp. Sharad Pawar faction currently has 10 MLAs in the Maharashtra Assembly. The numbers may be small, but this team can play a big role on decisive occasions. At present, official response from all parties is awaited. Is this just a political dialogue or the sound of some big earthquake in Maharashtra politics, only time will tell.
