It has been tough times for the Pakistan Cricket Team both on and off the field. The side has already lost the series against England with one more game left to play. If the loss on the field wasn’t humiliating enough, more drama ensued after seven players were sent back home. The list included Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha.
Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar said that the current side lacks the fight needed during the current series. The 51-year-old was speaking on the Outside Edge show, where he said, “What is shocking in this? Didn’t you expect it? We didn’t fight for ourselves.”
Babar Azam‘s side hasn’t managed to cross 200 during the first two Tests. Their highest score was 194 in the second innings of the Lord’s Test match, out of which 97 came from Saud Shakeel’s blade. Before this, the team finished the West Indies series with a 1-1 scoreline and had also lost the Test series against Bangladesh by a 0-2 margin.
As far as the WTC standings are concerned, the team is last in the table. The team has played eight games in the current WTC cycle, having won just two games and lost the others, with a win percentage of 16.67.
Legendary pacer hopeful of revival
Shoaib said that he spoke to a PCB official who said that the cricket was in dire straits, but there is hope for revival in the future. “The plan is to remove the current players and replace them with new cricketers who want to play for the country,” Shoaib said.
He also added, “The board is looking at the future, and they are working on it in the right way. I want Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf to continue in this next phase of transitions. There is plenty of cricket left in them. There are expectations from the next generation of players who are getting ready for the future.”
