Shobha De shared a reel on her social media account and wrote, “Mirzapur – The Movie. Anandita De, thank you for the reel. I spent Rs 900 on a ticket, Rs 260 on Bhel and spent about 4 hours wondering why I was watching a film in which so many sequences were stitched together without any head.” He further said sarcastically, “That is, hey brother dwarf? Camel’s milk? And a dreaded villain who sews a sexy bralette for his ‘girlfriend’?”

‘The film is for men, I fell asleep for 15 minutes’

Shobhaa De, who went straight to watch the film without watching the previous seasons of the web series, said that this film has been made purely keeping the ‘male audience’ in mind. She admitted without hesitation, “I fell asleep for 15 minutes during the movie. Not only that, I also heard two women sitting behind me snoring.”

Praising the strong acting of Ravi Kishan and Ali Fazal in the film, he also admitted that the actors have tried their best, but due to the weak script, the story does not move forward in any direction and only unnecessary violence has been served on the screen. He also mentioned a controversial sex scene in the film (a sequence involving Beena Tripathi i.e. Rasika Duggal), which seems to be crammed into the story without any concrete context.

On one hand, critics and reviewers are pointing fingers at the shortcomings of the film, on the other hand, the film is doing well at the box office. Directed by director Gurmeet Singh, the film stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu, along with new faces like Ravi Kishan and Jitendra Kumar. Based on the background of Purvanchal, this film has come on the big screen with its old attitude of bloodshed, abuses and dreadful revenge.

Despite the shortcomings, the film has performed brilliantly if we look at the box office figures. Bringing a tsunami at the box office since its release, the film has crossed the net collection of Rs 148.45 crore in India, while its gross collection has reached Rs 176.94 crore.
