This film is based on the struggling and inspiring life of Maharashtra’s famous folk artist and Lavani dancer Vithabai Narayangaonkar. Recently, the film’s director Laxman Utekar released its powerful teaser, which created a stir as soon as it came on social media. Shraddha Kapoor’s changed look as a Lavani dancer is being liked very much by the audience and it is believed that this film will prove to be a superhit at the box office. But meanwhile, the film is embroiled in a big controversy regarding its title.

After all, why did the film ‘Eetha’ get into trouble?

The teaser of the film is getting a lot of love, but protests have started regarding its name ‘Eetha’. According to a report by TV9 Marathi, the Film and Cultural Department of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has expressed strong objection to this name. Party members say that the name ‘Eetha’ cannot fully reflect the great legacy and respect of Vithabai Narayangaonkar. Vithabai was not just an ordinary artist, but she was an icon of Maharashtra’s culture, folk art and spectacle world. The party has asked a direct question to the makers that when this film is based on the life of Vithabai, why was it not named directly as ‘Eetha’ or ‘Vithabai’? The name ‘Eetha’ does not have the weight and impact it should have.

Vithabai’s family also supported NCP

This controversy increased further when Vithabai Narayangaonkar’s own family also openly supported this demand of NCP. Vithabai’s sons Kailash Narayangaonkar and Rajesh Narayangaonkar along with her grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar have also demanded changing the name of the film. NCP Maharashtra State President Babasaheb Patil, while talking on this matter, said that the entire life of Vithabai Narayangaonkar was full of utmost respect and dignity. Therefore, it is the duty of him and his party to ensure that his life is shown in the film with complete decency and there is no compromise with his name. However, till now no official statement or reaction has come from the film’s producer ‘Maddock Films’ and director Laxman Utekar on this entire controversy regarding the name of the film.

What is the story of the film ‘Eetha’

Keeping the controversy aside, if we talk about the story of the film, then its teaser is going to give goosebumps to the audience. In the teaser, such a true and historical incident from Vithabai’s life has been shown, which everyone is surprised to see. It is shown in the teaser that Shraddha Kapoor is in the last days of pregnancy. Despite her heavy stomach, she is dancing Lavani with full energy on the stage. While dancing, she suddenly starts labor pain. But Vithabai, dedicated to her audience and her art, does not leave the show midway. She musters up the courage to go backstage, gives birth to a child, and cuts the child’s umbilical cord with a stone. Immediately after this she comes back on stage and completes her dance. Seeing his amazing courage and dedication, the audience present there is stunned and the entire hall echoes with applause.

Apart from Shraddha Kapoor, Bollywood’s best actors Randeep Hooda and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub will also be seen in lead roles in this film. This big film is ready to be released in theaters on 28th August. Now it remains to be seen whether the makers change the name of the film to resolve the controversy or the film goes ahead with the same name.
