According to media reports, the Khan family is preparing to build a new sea-facing residential building in the Bandra area of Mumbai. After this news came out, speculations have intensified whether Salman Khan’s family will leave their prestigious Galaxy apartment for the last five decades and shift to a new house.
However, till now neither Salman Khan nor his family has issued any official statement in this regard. So it is not clear at the moment whether the new construction is being undertaken for the purpose of investment, additional family accommodation or future relocation.
New project gets environmental approval
According to reports, on June 16, Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has approved the construction of a six-storey residential building in Chimbai area of Bandra.
It is being told that this new plot is located on the seashore and is only a few hundred meters away from Galaxy Apartment. The proposed building will have a ground floor, stilt parking and six residential floors. The project will be developed under the Development Control and Promotion Regulation (DCPR) 2034. After this approval, the process of construction work is likely to move forward.
Land registered in the name of Salma Khan
According to the available documents, the land on which the new building is to be built is registered in the name of Salman Khan’s mother Salma Khan.
The report states that a two-storey house built before 1956 existed at this location. Over time, many owners of this property changed and in the year 2011, it was purchased by the Khan family.
The old building had become dilapidated, due to which it had already been demolished. Now construction of a modern residential building is proposed at the same place.
Key Features of the Construction Project
The total construction area of the proposed project will be approximately 1,014 square meters. A new access road of about six meters wide will also be developed to reach the building, which will improve the traffic and entry system.
According to the report, this project will be constructed by a private developer. The prescribed FSI (Floor Space Index) in the project will be used as per rules and necessary administrative approvals have already been obtained. Special emphasis has also been laid on following environmental standards during construction.
There will be no cutting of trees, green areas will be developed
The construction documents also mention that no new trees will be cut for the project.
Instead, new trees of local species will be planted around the building complex and recreation area, so that environmental balance can be maintained. This step is considered important towards creating a balance between urban development and green conservation.
Can the family address be changed due to security reasons?
The news of the new house has come at a time when there have been constant concerns about Salman Khan’s safety in the last few years.
In the year 2024, two bike-riding attackers had opened fire outside Galaxy Apartment in Bandra. People associated with Lawrence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for that incident. After the incident, Maharashtra Police had further strengthened the security arrangements of the actor.
After this attack, many security related changes were made in Galaxy Apartment. The open balcony located near the flat of Salman Khan’s parents was protected with bulletproof glass and surveillance system was also increased in the premises.
However, there has been no official confirmation yet on directly linking the construction of the new building to security reasons.
