Shreyas won only 1 match in the last 13 T20s, if he loses today, he will create a shameful record.

Shreyas Iyer’s tenure as Indian captain has had a very bad start. Under the captaincy of Shreyas, Team India had to face a humiliating 0-2 defeat in the 2-match T20 series against Ireland. After this, the Indian team has lost the 5-match T20 series at the hands of England. The last match of the series between India and England is to be played today (11 July) in Southampton. If Team India loses in this match also, then a shameful record will be added to Shreyas’s name.

Where has Shreyas’s captaincy form gone?

Shreyas had a string of victories as captain in 2024 and 2025. He first made Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) the IPL champion and then led Mumbai to victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In IPL 2025 also, he took Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the finals. He is the only captain to take three different teams to the IPL final. Before KKR and PBKS, he had taken Delhi Capitals to the title match.

At the beginning of this IPL season, PBKS under the captaincy of Shreyas had won 6 out of the first 7 matches. One match was lost to rain. It seemed that PBKS would easily top the table but after this they lost 6 consecutive matches and their chances of reaching the playoffs were in danger. PBKS kept itself in the race for the playoffs by winning the last league stage match. However, Rajasthan Royals’ win against Mumbai Indians saw him out.

Shreyas’s worst record after Rizwan

Under the captaincy of Shreyas, PBKS won only 1 out of its last 7 matches in IPL 2026. After becoming the captain of Team India, Shreyas has not been able to achieve a single win in 6 matches. In this way, as captain, he has been able to achieve only 1 win in the last 13 T20 matches. In the last two years, Mohammad Rizwan is the only captain in the top-8 T20 International countries and its franchise league, who has won less matches than Shreyas in 13 consecutive matches. Rizwan has lost 14 consecutive matches in 2025 and 2026.

Shameful record will be added to Shreyas’s name?

Shreyas will add a shameful record to his name if he loses the fifth T20 match against England. He will become the first Indian captain to lose 4 matches in a bilateral T20 series. Also, Team India may lose the number-1 crown in the ICC T20 rankings. England has made a strong claim for world number-1 by winning 19 out of the last 22 T20 matches. If he wins in Southampton also, he will overtake India and reach the top in the T20 rankings.
