Shubman Gill’s century gave GT the ticket to the final, Rajasthan Royals’ dream broken
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced each other in the second qualifier match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In this match played in New Chandigarh on Friday (May 29), GT won by 7 wickets and made it to the finals. RR won the toss and batted first and scored 214 runs at the loss of 6 wickets, which GT easily achieved with the help of captain Shubman Gill’s blazing century by losing 3 wickets in 18.4 overs. GT will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the title match on Sunday.
Gill-Sudarshan put RR out of the match
The pair of Gill and Sai Sudarshan gave a strong start to GT while chasing the huge target. Both of them made an opening partnership of 167 runs in 12.5 overs and eliminated RR from the match. Sudarshan was out hit wicket after scoring 58 runs in 32 balls. He was out in similar fashion against RCB in Qualifier 1. When he was out, GT needed only 48 runs from 43 balls. Gill was standing at the crease after scoring 95 runs. He completed his fifth IPL century in 47 balls by hitting a four against Ravindra Jadeja in the 14th over.

Gill returned to the pavilion after taking GT closer to victory. He scored 104 runs in 53 balls with the help of 15 fours and 3 sixes. After his dismissal, Jos Buttler (9 not out), Washington Sundar (16) and Rahul Tewatia (17 not out) took GT to the target without any trouble. This was GT’s most successful run chase in IPL. For RR, Joffra Archer, Nandre Berger and Brijesh Sharma took 1-1 wicket.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s hard work goes waste
Batting first, RR lost the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) and Dhruv Jurel (7) within two overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi took charge from here along with Ravindra Jadeja and took RR to 70 runs by the end of the powerplay. Jadeja was batting aggressively but due to injury he retired hurt on the score of 82 and walked out of the field. After this, RR lost the wickets of captain Riyan Parag (11), Dasun Shanaka (3) and Joffra Archer at consecutive intervals, due to which its score became 118/5.

Vaibhav was standing at one end. After half the team was reduced, he got the support of Jadeja again. Although Jadeja slowed down this time, Vaibhav, after completing his fifty in 31 balls, scored 46 runs in the next 16 balls. He hit 8 fours and 7 sixes in 47 balls and put RR in a strong position by scoring 96 runs. After his dismissal, Donovan Ferreira played an unbeaten inning of 38 runs in 11 balls to take RR to a fighting score but it proved to be insufficient. For GT, Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder took 2-2 wickets.
