The court also ordered a fine of Rs. 27 thousand and a compensation of Rs. 4 lakh to the victim
The Special POCSO Court of Patan has convicted Maulvi Dujna Mehbubbhai Seliya in the case of raping a minor girl from Siddhpur and sentenced her to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. It is learnt that the court has ordered the accused to pay a fine of Rs. 27,000 and a compensation of Rs. 4 lakh to the victim.
About a year ago, as a 14-year-old and 6-month-old girl from Siddhpur was sick, her father called Maulvi Mehbubbhai Seliya of Gathaman village in Palanpur to his house for religious rituals and treatment. On the pretext of treatment, the accused stayed at the minor girl’s house for about a month. During this, he attracted Sagira to himself and exchanged mobile numbers. Then on February 24, 2025, Sagira went to the school for a farewell ceremony, from where the accused took her to Palanpur on a bike. From there, he took her to different places including Abu Road and Ahmedabad.
During this journey, the accused repeatedly had physical intercourse with Sagira in the train toilet and raped her. When Sagira did not return home, her father filed a complaint of kidnapping at Siddhpur police station. During the investigation, the police found Sagira and the accused. The clothes of the minor and the accused as well as medical samples were sent to the FSL by the investigating officer ASI Ramdayal Sharma and PI J.B. Acharya. In the FSL report, sperm of the accused with blood group B was found on the clothes of the minor. Apart from this, CCTV footage of Abu Road railway station was also presented as digital evidence. In the case before Judge K. J. Modi of the Special POCSO Court in Patan, government prosecutor Janakbhai D. Thakkar presented 13 oral witnesses and 30 documentary evidence. Based on the birth and death registration register, the age of the minor at the time of the incident was proved to be 14 years, 06 months and 26 days. Based on the testimony of the minor, her parents and medical officers, the court convicted the accused Maulvi Dujana Mehboobbhai Seliya (age 21) and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
