Singapore ranked 70th in a list of the world’s top 100 cities for walking exploration in 2026, trailing behind regional neighbors such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur, according to a rankings by travel platform GuruWalk.

“Singapore compresses into 730 square kilometers a metropolis where Hindu temples neighbor Chinese pagodas and mosques, all connected by an impeccable transport network. Walking from the historic Chinatown to Marina Bay with its futuristic skyscrapers, is experiencing the 21st-century global synthesis in its purest form,” it described.

Singapore, known for its strict laws and low crime rates, is a preferred destination for foreigners seeking a safe walking experience without concerns about robbery.

The rankings evaluate destinations based on walkability, density of attractions, accessibility and the overall experience for visitors who prefer to explore cities on foot.

Hanoi ranked 37th, followed by Ho Chi Minh City at 38th.

Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur ranked 52nd.

This year’s ranking is once again dominated by well-known European destinations, with Rome taking the top spot.

The Italian capital stands out for its dense concentration of iconic heritage sites — including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon — all easily explored along a single walking route. It is followed by Madrid, Budapest and Prague, each known for compact city centers and pedestrian-friendly layouts.

Beyond Europe, the list also features major destinations from Asia and the Americas, including Tokyo, Kyoto and New York City.

The ranking by GuruWalk is considered a useful reference for international travelers, particularly those interested in exploring local culture on foot, an approach that is both cost-effective and offers deeper insight into everyday life.
