Beyoncé steals the show at Met Gala 2026

Fashion’s biggest night dazzled New York once again as global celebrities, designers and artists gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 2026 Met Gala — an event that blended glamour, creativity and controversy under this year’s theme, “Fashion is Art”.

The night’s biggest headline belonged to Beyoncé, who made a dramatic return to the Met Gala after nearly a decade away. Arriving alongside husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy Carter, the superstar instantly became the centre of attention on the iconic red carpet.

Beyoncé stunned in a sparkling skeletal-inspired gown paired with a flowing cape and jeweled crown, perfectly matching the evening’s artistic theme. Speaking during the event, the singer described the moment as “surreal”, saying it felt special to experience the gala through her daughter’s eyes.

This year’s Met Gala celebrated costume artistry and body-inspired fashion, encouraging celebrities to transform themselves into living artworks. The red carpet quickly turned into a showcase of daring imagination, with many stars embracing sculptural, surreal and theatrical designs.

Rihanna arrived fashionably late with partner A$AP Rocky, instantly electrifying the crowd just as the event appeared to be winding down. Meanwhile, Heidi Klum grabbed attention in a hyper-realistic marble statue-inspired outfit that became one of the evening’s most talked-about looks.

Hollywood stars, musicians and fashion icons dominated the carpet throughout the night. Nicole Kidman dazzled in a sequined red gown, while Charli XCX, Sam Smith and Madonna embraced darker avant-garde styles.

Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter revealed that her unique dress was crafted from strips of film inspired by the classic movie Sabrina starring Audrey Hepburn.

The gala also highlighted strong South Asian representation. Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar appeared in a richly embroidered outfit designed by celebrated Indian designer Manish Malhotra. Johar said the night was emotional for him, adding that fashion has always played a powerful role in his films.

One notable absence was Timothée Chalamet, who skipped the glamorous event to watch his beloved New York Knicks play in the NBA playoffs, while girlfriend Kylie Jenner attended the gala alone.

The event also drew criticism from activists protesting sponsorship ties linked to Jeff Bezos and Amazon, sparking debate over wealth and influence in the fashion world.
