Six police personnel, including the in-charge of Aerodrome police station and a sub-inspector, have been suspended in Indore following allegations that they assaulted and misbehaved with two men, one of whom is a BJP worker. The action came after hundreds of BJP workers and supporters of local MLA Golu Shukla staged a late-night protest at the police station.

The protest took place on Friday night after reports emerged that Pandit Jaideep Dubey and BJP worker Pankaj Chaubey had allegedly been beaten by police personnel during an altercation at the station. The protesters raised slogans against the police and demanded disciplinary action against those involved.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sumit Kerkatta announced the suspension of the six personnel after a preliminary inquiry. Those suspended include station in-charge Virendra Singh Kushwaha, a sub-inspector and four other police personnel.

According to the information available, Dubey had a dispute with his neighbors and contacted MLA Shukla for assistance. The legislator subsequently spoke to Kushwaha, who reportedly asked Dubey to visit the police station, assuring him that the matter would be examined.

Dubey later reached the Aerodrome police station accompanied by Chaubey. The two allegedly got into an argument with police personnel, who are accused of assaulting them before making them sit inside the station.

After BJP workers and supporters of Shukla learned about the alleged incident, a large group gathered outside the police station at around 11 pm. The gathering created a tense situation, prompting senior police officials to reach the spot.

The police administration took cognizance of the allegations and initiated disciplinary proceedings. A departmental inquiry is underway to establish the sequence of events and determine the responsibility of the personnel concerned.

Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
