Skoda Dealer Buys India’s First 80 Lakh Rupee Kodiaq RS (Video)

Skoda launched the Kodiaq RS performance SUV in India in early July. The SUV was first shown in June, when bookings also opened. Now, a video showing the first Kodiaq RS being delivered to its owner, has surfaced online. Interestingly, the first customer is a Skoda dealer.

This video has been shared online by Unique Skoda, a dealership in Kolhapur. In it, we can see the car kept under a classy Grey veil, ready for delivery. The customer in this case is Rahul Chordia, who co-owns Unique Skoda and multiple other automobile dealerships.

We see him arrive in a Volkswagen Tiguan. Soon after, his elderly parents are seen arriving in a Hyundai Tucson. Together with his wife and parents, Rahul unveils the Kodiaq RS, his latest purchase. It appears to be finished in the Steel Grey colour. In India, the performance SUV is available in four exterior colours, and Steel Grey is a classy choice.

The businessman and his wife are seen performing pooja and aarti on the SUV. They then receive the key from the dealership staff and celebrate the purchase by sharing sweets. Rahul then drives the Kodiaq RS out of the dealership. The video also gives us a detailed view of the car, its exterior design and of the features inside.

The Kodiaq RS has an ex-showroom price of Rs 66.99 lakh in India. That itself makes it Rs 20 lakh costlier than the standard Kodiaq. With the registration charges, road tax and insurance included, the on-road price will amount to Rs 79.63 lakh, in Kolhapur. The more interesting part of the story is that you won’t be able to buy the Kodiaq RS now, even if you have the money.

The Kodiaq RS is being brought to India as a full CBU ( Completely Built Unit) import. The first batch was limited to just 50 units. Due to high demand, all of these got sold out in just six minutes of the booking portal going live.

The RS version is the most aggressive and fastest Skoda SUV to ever go on sale in India. It does the 0-100 kph sprint in just 6.3 seconds. The top speed stands at 231kph. It is also the first Skoda SUV to get the RS badge here.

The RS version has a sharper and more aggressive design than the regular SUV. It has a different front bumper with larger air intake and functional air curtains. The exterior makes generous use of Black trims. There are multiple vRS badges as well. A full-width light bar connects the Matrix LED headlamps and the SUV rides on massive 20-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in Hankook tyres. The brake calipers are finished in Red and there is a new rear bumper as well. Most of these features are shown in the video.

The Kodiaq RS doesn’t fall short of features either. It gets a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, 13-speaker Canton audio, dual wireless phone chargers, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, level 2 ADAS, and more

The biggest highlight of the RS version is its performance credentials. As mentioned above, it excels with its acceleration and has brilliant road manners.

It is based on an upgraded version of the standard SUV’s MQB Evo platform. It even comes equipped with Dynamic Chassis Control Plus that ensures excellent ride quality, handling and driving dynamics. It allows 15 levels of damping adjustment. The SUV also has progressive steering technology.

Under the hood is the 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, in a state to produce 261 hp and 400 Nm of torque (60hp and 80Nm more than the standard model). A similar spec can also be seen in models like the Octavia RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI. Mated to it is a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The SUV gets an advanced All Wheel Drive (AWD) system as well. It uses an electro-hydraulically controlled multi-plate clutch along with sensors to distribute torque between the front and rear axles as needed.

Additionally, the SUV also features improved braking hardware. It gets slotted and ventilated disc brakes and two-piston callipers.
