Indian women's team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana created a new record for herself in Japan on Sunday. Smriti became the highest run-scorer in men's and women's T20 International cricket.
Smriti Mandhana reached the pinnacle with an aggressive knock of 37 off 19 balls in the Asian Games semi-final against the Bangladesh Women's team at the Korogi Sports Park. She surpassed former New Zealand cricketer Suzy Bates in the list of highest run-scorers. Bates scored 4,788 runs in 171 innings. Before Sunday's match, Smriti had scored 4,751 runs in 170 innings and needed just 8 runs to overtake the former New Zealander. She started her innings with two fours and two singles in 7 balls.
Mandhana and Bates were already ahead of Babar Azam as the highest run-scorer in men's T20 Internationals. Now Smriti has taken a lead of more runs than Babar's runs.
Smriti has overtaken many giants
Smriti Mandhana has now topped the list of highest run-scorers in T20 international cricket (men and women). She now has 4,788 runs to her name. After her, New Zealand's Suzy Bates is second with 4,758 runs and Pakistan's Babar Azam is third with 4,596 runs. England's Jos Buttler is fourth in the list with 4,292 runs. Also, Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur is at the fifth position with 45,287 runs.

Smriti Mandhana recently became the highest run-scorer in women's international cricket. During the Asian Games, she held the record for the most runs in women's cricket, surpassing former India captain Mithali Raj's record.
She broke Mithali's record of 10,868 runs by scoring 124 against Hong Kong at the Asian Games. She also scored the 18th international century of her career. It became the most century in women's international cricket, taking her past star player Meg Lanning. After that, South African women's team captain Laura Walward scored a century to equal Smriti's centuries.
