Fire is falling from the sky. The mercury is hovering around 40 to 42 degrees in South Bengal districts. Life is oral under the influence of Lu. And amidst this extreme clamor, the election season is going on in Bengal. The first round of voting was held on April 23. The second round of embargo will be held on April 29. There is no choice but to stand in the line of the booth in the hot sun due to the pull of civic duty. But it’s important to stay hydrated from the inside out to avoid the risk of heatstroke or dehydration this summer. Experts say, water is not just ordinary water to satisfy thirst, but the body will be strong if you rely on the natural syrup of native fruits. 1) Bell syrup: Bale’s laxative properties are unique in keeping the stomach cool. It not only relieves fatigue but also aids in digestion.
Ingredients: 1 ripe bell, 3 glasses of cold water, a little bit of salt, 1 spoon of lime juice, jaggery or sugar powder to taste.
Method: First crack the bell and take out the shell. Now grind the shell well with water. Strain through a strainer and discard the pulp and seeds. Add beet salt, lemon juice and sugar powder to this mixture and keep stirring. Serve fresh bell sorbet with ice cubes.
2) Watermelon Syrup: Watermelon is about 92 percent water. So Mela Var is a better alternative to meet water deficiency in the body.

Ingredients: 2 cups watermelon slices (seed removed), juice of half a lemon, 4-5 mint leaves, a pinch of chilli powder.
Method: Blend well with watermelon slices and mint leaves in a blender. After pouring into the glass, sprinkle a little bit of salt and pepper powder on top. There is no need to use sugar if the natural sweetness is high. After coming back from the sun, sipping this syrup will give you instant relief.
3) Mango Syrup: Ampora sherbet is the eternal Bengali medicine to get rid of loo. It maintains electrolyte balance.

Ingredients: 2 medium sized raw mangoes, beet salt, 1 tsp roasted cumin powder, 1 green chilli (optional), little mint batter and sugar to taste.
Method: Peel the raw mangoes by burning them or boiling them in water. Take out the mango decoction and add cold water to it. Now mix sugar, beet salt, roasted cumin powder and mint batter well. If necessary, you can add a little chili. This cool drink will keep your energy levels right at the polls.
You can keep these drinks with you before you go to the polls or have a couple of them to recharge your body back home. But remember, avoiding street cut fruits or open syrups is good for health.
