Soi Sim Beach in Ha Long Bay reopens after 6 years

Soi Sim Beach in northern Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay, Vietnam’s sole representative on the 2026 list of the world’s top 100 beaches, is expected to reopen in early November.

It was shut down in 2020 after an audit found that its operator, Soi Sim Co., Ltd., was running a conservation project without the required land-use and forestry permits.

But officials confirmed on Oct. 31 that all legal paperwork has finally been completed.

Soi Sim Island has a rich natural ecosystem with several plant species endemic to Ha Long Bay.

The island derives its name from the ancient sim (rose myrtle) groves flourishing across its hillsides and bursting into vibrant purple blossoms every May.

In June 2026, U.S.-based travel platform The World’s 50 Beaches included it in its annual rankings.
